How many tragedies do we need?
This is one word I can find to describe my feelings or state of mind after seeing the coverage of Meerut Fire tragedy on various TV channels. Charred Bodies, mourning relatives and indifferent administration, all these together cut a figure of sorry state of affairs. Adding to this pathetic situation are the rumors of recovery of skeletons at different places . Relatives of victims just roaming around , pleading to authorities in a vain attempt to get a word about wellbeing of their families and policemen pushing them off , news of use of bulldozers to remove the proofs and alleged removal of dead bodies , these are just extreme acts of barbarism.will any amount of compensation be enough to wipe tears of familes who have suffered the loss of lives? My sympathy is there with all the victims family and I can just pray for peace of those who went to this consumer Fair , and never returned. But will this tragedy also go unnoticed or will it be politically exploited or it will awaken the administration to make sure such incidences are not repeated and minimal security norms will be followed in future. How many such tragedies do we need to open the eyes of government and administrators, can’t we learn anything from Upahar tragedy and this Meerut Fire and make sure that all the measures to ensure the safety of Public are taken?
